Strong British fields at the Philadelphia Slam

Dina Asher-Smith, Georgia Hunter Bell and Laviai Nielsen join Josh Kerr, Matt Hudson-Smith and Zharnel Hughes in Pennsylvania

Grand Slam Track, founded by Quadruple Olympic and eight times world champion Michael Johnson, has announced his full line for his next meeting in Philadelphia (from May 31 to June 1).

Not only has a large number of international stars, but nine of the best athletes in Great Britain, four runners and five challengers, also adorn the track in Franklin Field.

Zharnel Hughes is a corridor in the male short sprints group and once against Kenny Bednarek for more than 100 meters and 200 m. Bednarek has collected maximum points so far (48 – 24 for each match) with victories in general both in Kingston and in Miami. Meanwhile, Hughes took second place in Jamaica and third in Florida.

Just although Daryll Neita and Dina Asher-Smith competed in Kingston, ran in different groups, with Neita part of the short sprints of women and Asher-Smith opting for the 200 m/400m challenge in the long sprints.

However, in Philadelphia, British Sprinting duo will face. With Neita by placing room in the 100 My Asher-Smith Olympic final, she is the national and 200m record holder, promises to be a pulsating battle. Both will aim to chase Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who, as Bednarek, has collected each point in the sacrifice so far.

Matthew Hudson-Smith began the Grand Slam track with an explosion with the victory in the long male sprints in Kingston, after that with a fifth place in general in Miami. The 400 m silver medalist will face people like Muzala Samukonga, Steven Gardiner and Miami Champion Jerem Richards in Pennsylvania.

The twins Nielsen, Laviai and Lina, make their Grand Slam Track debut and compete in the long sprints of women and long obstacles respectively. It will be the second 400m of the Laviai Nielsen season after he recorded 52.02 at the Daha Diamond League and its first 200 meters since last March in Johannesburg.

With Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone exchanging the long obstacles for short obstacles, Lina Nielsen’s work becomes a little easier, but the record holder of British 600 m still faces a quality field, which includes the tastes of Shamier Little.

There is also the attractive perspective that Josh Kerr face Elliot Giles more than 800m/1500m in the short male distance, which will bring memories of his collision in the United Kingdom athletics championship last year.

In the 800m final, Kerr tried to pass Giles in the straight house, but there was not enough space inside the lane one. The couple cut and crashed on the Manchester floor. With Cole Hocker, Yared Nuguse, Marco Arop, Hobbs Kessler, Josh Hoey and Samuel capple also in the field, they expect fireworks in Pennsylvania.

Georgia Hunter Bell returns to the US for the first time from his victory in Wanamaker Mile in the February Millosa Games, with the 1500m Olympic Bronze Medalist with the aim of replicating that success in Grand Slam Track. The British competes in the short distance of women and faces people like Jess Hull and Nikki Hiltz, to name just a few.

The signed runners Devon Allen, Masai Russell, Roshawn Clarke, Cyerna Samba-Mayela, Oblique Sevilla, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and Luis Grijalva will miss the Slam of Philadelphia due to injuries. As a result, an additional challenger has an leg to each of its racing groups. Fred Kerley, who is also a runner, is suspended pending the complete processes and will not compete at the meeting.

“We could be more excited to announce the full field of competitors for the Slam of Philadelphia,” Johnson said. “The career in the Miami Slam was really world -class, and we have even more energy and entertainment for our third slam. The spectators in the stands in Franklin Field, and all the fans who look from home, will see fighting”
