Scout Adkin triumphs at opening WMRA World Cup race of 2025

British Runner begins the Montain Running series global with style with the women’s victory while Paul Machoka takes the title of men

Bukovina’s mystical forests came alive on Saturday (May 3) when the Zmeu X-Fest mountain race developed in a dramatic sample of resistance, strategy and raw mountain power. Held in the heart of Câmpulung Moldovenesc, the 19 km race with an amazing amount of 1,750 meters of elevation won the athletes through a noisy but brutal course formed by nature and legend.

The name of the “Zmeu”, a mythical dragon -type figure of Romanian folklore, the event merged the modern sport with deep cultural roots, taking corridors fits the monasteries of the fifteenth century, the criminals loaded with moss and the legendary rise runc, ominitally. “”

The wounded route through the dense pine forest, the painted monasteries of Bukovina and in steep alpine meadows where the legends say that the Zmeu once rose. Behind her, Valentine Rutto de Kenia and Mòdiary Amps or Romania fought against an intense battle, crossing the line together in a rare and dramatic photo end.

“The course is wild, but spectacular,” said Adkin.

The male race opened at an abrasing rhythm, with Paul Machoka and Kevin Kibet of Kenya carrying the lead in the first big climb: acscping to an incredible 2,200 m per hour. “Say everything in that final descent,” said Aymonod. “Catching Kenyans was not easy, but this course takes the fighter in all of us.”

The World Cup action now moves to Italy, where the elite of the running mountain will meet again in Casto, Brescia, for a double weekend header: the vertical nasego and the legendary Nasego trophy, from May 24 to 25.

After the electrying opening of this weekend in Romania, the expectations are high, and the mountains are also.
