Republican strategist Mark Bednar said in Breitbart News Saturday that Republicans have a path to take the House in 2026, while warning conservatives not to become complacent after major redistricting. gain in Virginia.
Bednar called the Virginia ruling “a huge victory for Republicans,” calling the Democratic redistricting effort an “egregious move,” but warned that conservatives can’t “rest on their laurels” because many of the retained districts “are still swing seats.”
“We can’t pause here,” Bednar said. “We need to keep the pedal to the metal.”
Breitbart News Washington bureau chief Matt Boyle said he believes the House is no longer a foregone conclusion for Democrats, calling the race a “leap” and saying Republicans can maintain their majority “if they work for it.”
“I totally agree,” Bednar responded, adding that the Trump administration is “on a rampage right now” and pointing to Cabinet officials, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, as examples of officials promoting the administration’s message.
Bednar said President Donald Trump was able to “basically put together this dream team” to push that message, giving candidates, members of Congress and senators a sense of the same momentum.
“So I totally agree, Matt, that the momentum is on our side,” Bednar said.
Bednar added the sequel focus on former President Barack Obama shows “how big the void is in the Democratic Party,” stating that his “best replacement” is someone who “hasn’t even been in office for a decade.”
“They have no leaders,” Bednar said, adding that Democrats’ “political agenda is flat” and that Republicans are benefiting from a message focused on “low taxes, economic growth and secure borders.”
The discussion also turned to Trump’s expected trip to China next week. Bednar said Americans should be “very proud” that Trump is “China-focused” and “fighting for them on their behalf” in China.
“Maybe not, we don’t know what kind of deal we’re going to get out of this,” Bednar said, but “the mere fact that he’s focused and fighting for it” was “a big step in its own right.”
Bednar added that Trump-style political themes “translate well to other parts of the world” because they “strengthen people,” “strengthen countries,” and “secure economies.”
