The Eastern Africa country announced its outbreak on January 30 after the death of a nurse who tested positive for the virus.

Uganda has officially declared the end of its Ebola outbreak, three months after the first cases arose in the capital, Kampala.

The Ministry of Health announced the milestone on Saturday through its official X account, qualifying it as “good news” and confirming that 42 days had passed without new infections since the last patient was unpleasant.

“Duration of this outbreak, 14 cases, 12 confirmed and two not confirmed through laboratory tests [probable]They were reported. There were four deaths, two confirmed and two probable. Ten people recovered from infection, “said the World Health Organization (WHO) in a statement.

Who Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus applauded the Uganda Ministry of Health for his “leadership and commitment” by overcoming the outbreak. “Congritions to the government and health workers of #Uganda at the end of the #bola outbreak,” he said on Saturday.

Ebola infections are frequent in Uganda, which has many tropical forests that are natural deposits for the virus.

The last outbreak, caused by the strain of Suran of the virus, was detected on January 30 of this year when a man contracted the virus and then died. The strain has no approved vaccine.

It was the ninth outbreak of Uganda since the country registered its early infection in 2000.

Neighbor of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a country that has experienced more than the outbreaks of boxes, including one from 2018 to 2020 that killed almost 2,300 people, Uganda remains highly vulnerable to the spread of the disease.

The last outbreak begged in Kampala, a bustling city of four million people and a key transit center that unites Eastern DRC, Kenya, Rwanda and South Sudan. Health experts say that Uganda has been able to take advantage of their experience fighting the disease over the years to control them relatively fast.

Ebola propagates through contact with fluids and infected body tissues, with symptoms such as severe headache, muscle pain, blood vomiting and internal bleeding.
