There is a great characteristic that I look forward to iOS 26, ipados 26 and macOS Tahoe 26, and it is one that Apple should have added years ago: calling and detecting text messages. I could do more than avoiding talking with strangers: I could stay safe from scammers who seek to steal my information or my identity.
Similar to the characteristics of Google and Samsung, Apple calls detection veterinarians to verify what they want to be in their own way. The company announced the capacity in its World Developer Conference 2025 Keynote.
This could help stop the threat of the voice of AI, which allow scams to create the voice clones of AI with only 3 seconds of recorded voice. These characteristics of calling and messages can arrive years after many of Apple’s competitors have already implemented them, but it is an easy W for Apple without power.
There is also a new filtering capacity of text messages that places the messages of the unknown senders in a separate folder to check or ignore it. This could help limit the number of people who fall in love with work, tolls or other text phishing scams.
I have two, maybe three of these text messages per week. Having them in their own small island may not stop the frequency to which they are sent, but it will certainly provide some peace of mind that I accidentally won a phase -ai scam or scam link. In addition, a less crowded input tray is always pleasant.
Apple’s new characteristics also arrive at a good time. A recent CNET survey showed that 96% of Americans receive at least one email scam message, telephone calls or text messages every week. While Apple can be late for the party, anything that helps you get less scams is a welcome addition.
