With 18 closed sugar factories in the last fifteen days, the crushing operation can soon end this year with the estimated sugar production in around 26 million tons (MT) before September 30.
According to the data compiled by the National Factories of Sugar Cooperativas (NFCSF), the production of sugar between October 1, 2024 and April 30, 2025 has fallen 18.34 percent to 25.7 million tons (MT) by.
When publishing the update, the cooperative sugar body said that the current production number reflects a significant decrease or 5.77 TM. Taking into account the production of all states and factorization in regional recoveries, it is estimated that the country’s total sugar production is 26.1 TM for the end of the season.
Uttar Pradesh, the largest producer, has seen 122 factories to undertake the crushing this season, or that 111 have completed the operations. Of 94.8 TM or crushed sugarcane, the State has produced 9.25 TM or sugar (10.34 TM), achieving an average sugar recovery or 9.75 percent.
In Maharashtra, 200 factories participated this season, or that 199 have a complete crushing. Only one unit remains operational and is expected to end before May 8. The State has crushed 85.2 TM or sugar cane to an average recovery or 9.50 percent and has produced 8.1 TM of sugar (10.99 TM).
In Karnataka, the 79 factories have completed operations, crushing 50.2 TM or cane with an average recovery or 8.05 percent. The sugar production was 4.04 TM (5.14 TM), said NFCSF adding after the resumption of crushing in some mills in the Monzón season, the final production is expected to reach 4.2 Mt.
In Tamil Nadu, 23 or 30 factories have completed the 5.7 TM or cane crusher at an average or 8.35 percent recovery and have produced 0.48 TM or sugar (0.86 TM), which can increase to 0.7 TM after the end of the special season.
NFCSF also said that with around 3.2 TM of sugar that is expected to deviate for ethanol production, the sugar stock is expected to be 4.8-5 Mt.

Hailing the cabinet decision to raise sugarcane price by 4 per cent, The NFCsf has urged the government to address two critical issues – an upward revision of the minimum selling price (MSP) of sugar and a corresponding inhanol spell Derhaned Inhanolaanol Derhaned Sugarcane Juice and B-Heav Molasses.
“We also request the continuation of a sugar export policy with a vision of the future for the next 2025–26 season, especially benefit to the ports based on the port such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, to ensure that the sugar prices of the former national average mill remain sustainable,” he said.
The average average price of all India currently varies between ₹ 3,880/quintal and ₹ 3,930/quintal, he said.
