StruggleDiplomacy and politics

This is where things are on Monday, April 28:

Struggle

  • Russia launched almost 150 drones and missiles in Ukraine on Sunday, killing at least four people. The Ukraine Air Force said that 57 of the drones were intercepted and another 67 were stuck.
  • North Korea first confirmed on Monday that troops had sent to fight with the Russian army to help resume parts of the Kursk region occupied by the Ukrainian forces.
  • The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, expressed his personal gratitude to the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, saying: “Our Korean friends acted based on a sense of solidarity, justice and a true eaten.”
  • The United States Department of State expressed alarm about the admission and asked Pyongyang to immediately end their military support to Russia.

Diplomacy and politics

  • The president of the United States, Donald Trump, appeared for the first time to suggest that he is reversing his previous confidence in Putin. Trump said Sunday that he is “very missing” about Russian missile attacks against Ukraine. “I want to stop shooting, sit and sign an agreement,” the US leader told journalists.
  • However, Trump also said that Ukrainian President Volodyymyr Zenskyy could be willing to “resign” Crimea to Russia, despite kyiv’s constant refusal to give territory.
  • The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, warned that the Trump administration could withdraw from high fire conversations unless progressing soon. “We cannot continue spending time and resources to this effort if it will not come to fruition,” Rubio told Meet The Press on Sunday, adding that a high fire agreement “must happen soon.”
  • Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared the preparation of Moscow for a negotiated agreement, but said they were unresolved elements. “We are ready to reach an agreement,” Face the Nation told CBS’s, and added that certain points should be “tuned.”
  • The assistance of the USA. Previously received will not be considered in an upcoming mineral agreement with Washington, the Ukrainian Prime Minister, Denys, Shmyhal announced Sunday. Shmyhal added that there was a “good progress” in the agreement after meeting with the United States Secretary Scott Besent.
  • The German Defense Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, warned Ukraine against the acceptance of Trump’s high fire that involves land concessions to Russia, describing it as “capitulation.”
