Records broken as thousands of runners enjoy the sun in Sunderland

The 14th edition of this event saw a good time for participants in the 10 km and half marathon and 3 km.

A record number of participants addressed the city of Sunderland 2025 under conditions of warm and sunny on Sunday (May 11).

He enrolled in the city of Sonderland this year, 10 km, Sunderland City Half Marathon and Sunderland Big 3 km active, and the Goodher took large crowds through the streets of the city. The 14th edition of the races of the city of Sunderland was organized by events of the North in association with the City Council of Sunderland.

The three races began and ended next to the Plaza de la Groganta in the heart of Sunderland, where the village of the event was full of people during the event. The organizers organized additional water stations around the route, to help keep the hydrogates hydrated.

The action begged with the active Sunderland Big 3km, in which the majority of the 700 runners were young. They were put on their way by Cllr Allison Gugnall, mayor of Sunderland, who began all the races of the day. Active Sunderland Big 3km was Oscar Paxton at 11:11, followed by Brother Theo (11:17), with Rodrigo Ribeiro (11:31) in third place. Kiera Wilson won the girl’s career at 12:11, followed by Chloe Brown (12:29) and Anna Butler (12:31).

Lewis Gamble-Thompson of New Marske Harriers won the 2025 Sunderland City 10 km at 30:44, with Liam Aldridge (30:50) or Billinge Running Club Segundo and Dave Richardson (32:00) or Gateshead Harriers third.

Stacey Smith of North Shields Poly retained her title in the women’s race at 36:23, followed by Alex Sneddon (36:36) or Jarrow and Hebninn, and Jennifer Berry (37:05) or Wallsend Harriers. Also among the runners in the 10 km were the mayor of the Northeast Kim McGuinness and the legend of the collection of funds of the charity Colin Burgin Plews, better known as Big Pink dess.

Monte Watson of Highgate Harriers was the convincing winner of the Half Marathon of the city of Sunderland 2025 at 69:03. Last year’s winner, Liam Walshaw from Sunderland Harriers, exceeded his time of 2024 for two minutes to claim second in 71:17 and Adam Pearson was third in 72:27. Jackie Murdy of South Shields Harriers won the women’s race at 88:57, followed by Sarah Norman (89:56) and Siobhan last (91:09).

Many runners in the three races were raising funds for good causes, such as the official Charity partner Red Sky Foundation, and the official beneficial health organization STS STS, the dedicated beneficial organization of South Tyneside and Sunderland and Sunderland Trust. More than 150 volunteers were on service to make possible the executions of the city of Sunderland, including many of the event partner of the University of Sunderland.

The director of the race, Steve Cram, said: “It was a glorious day in Sunderland, for running and spectators. Together with a record number of participants, we saw an excellent time at the sharp end of each race. It was brilliant to see so many Weyythe course, enjoy, enjoy a fantastic demonstration to enter active.
