On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) spoke about Iran, saying that “diplomacy is always the path we should take. And if you remember, a nuclear deal was negotiated with Iran. Trump got us out of that. I think what we have to do is think consistently about how we’re building those coalitions in any situation… And we shouldn’t be threatening military power. This is really, I feel like we’re getting to the worst of American imperialism. again, where it is about greed and power and not diplomacy.”

Co-host Wolf Blitzer asked: “[D]Do you give President Trump any credit for his willingness, potentially, to defend peaceful protesters in Iran?

Jayapal responded: “Well, I think diplomacy is always the way we should go. And if you remember, a nuclear deal was negotiated with Iran. Trump got us out of that. I think what we have to do is constantly think about how we are building those coalitions in any situation, whether it’s Iran or Venezuela. And we shouldn’t threaten military power. This is really something like that, I feel like we’re getting to the worst of American imperialism again, where it’s about greed and power and not diplomacy. I certainly hope that the Iranians are willing to negotiate and that we sit down and discuss what the path forward is without military intervention.
