On MS NOW’s “The Briefing” on Friday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said President Donald Trump used the tariffs “like a mob shakedown.”
Warren said, “The Supreme Court stepped up and actually applied the law. They said it was clear, both under the Constitution and under the statutes, that Donald Trump did not have the authority to engage in all of these arbitrary tariffs that he imposed. They were illegal. I mean, there was just no question about it and that was the 6/3 opinion. So, yes, the Supreme Court did the right thing.”
He added: “Trump pretends to be a big guy. He doesn’t like the way someone talks to him on the phone, so he raises tariffs. But the word that’s starting to circulate around Washington is that for foreign countries, if they’re really worried about their tariff rate, if they’re really worried that one of their local industries is going to collapse because Donald Trump is going to hit them with a 50% tariff, they need to know the right person in Washington. They need to know the right person, and they need to be friendly to the right person. You have to be friendly in a way that helps the right person. “This whole thing is like a mafia extortion where favors are exchanged.”
