During an interview broadcast Wednesday on NewsNation’s “Cuomo,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey stated that the city will not work with ICE or any federal government agency on immigration enforcement, in part because of the “moral imperative here,” but also because of “the fact that I want our police officers to focus on security.”
Frey said: “In Minneapolis, we will not cooperate with ICE or any federal agency around immigration enforcement work, we will not. And there’s a good reason, by the way, that we won’t, and it’s not just the moral imperative here, but also the fact that I want our police officers to focus on security.”
He continued, “I want our police officers to arrest perpetrators of violent crimes and prevent carjackings from occurring and do basic 911 response work. You know what I don’t want our police officers to do? Spend a single minute chasing down a parent who just dropped his kids off at daycare and is about to start working a 12-hour shift, who happens to be from Ecuador.”
