Safety Wing Review (Updated 2025)

Budget travelers love to save money, including myself. But one of the offers with which we should be cheap is travel insurance.

After about 17 years of traveling around the world, I never leave home without him.

I lost my luggage, I broke the camera and I only needed emergency medical help over the years.

Travel insurance has been there for me every time. Not only has money saved me, but it also gives me tranquility while I explode.

I have written about the years about why you need insurance, how to choose the right company and listed my favorite suppliers.

Today I want to talk about me favorite Travel insurance company: security alwing.

Who is Safetywing?

Safetywing is an insurance company that focuses on affordable coverage for budget travelers and digital nomads (although it does not have to be to obtain coverage). It is led by nomads and expatriates who know exactly what these travelers need.

Safetywing sacrifices basic insurance plans (called “essential nomad”) for a fraction of what other companies charge, Althehegh are also less integral. For me, they are the best travel insurance company in general.

Its standard Nomad insurance coverage costs only $ 56.28 USD for 4 weeks (for travelers aged 10 to 39). That is one of the lowest prices for reliable travel insurance. They are super competitive when it comes to price

Its coverage extends to 69 years, however, travelers aged 60 to 69 should expect to pay more than $ 196 USD per month per coverage. Still very reasonable, to be honest.

But it’s coverage current Good? What about customer service?

Today I want to review the security wing and talk about when it is, and it is not worth using it so that you can prepare better for your next trip and make sure you have the coverage you need.

What is Safetywing?

The Nomad Standard Nomad Safetywing insurance plan is the essential plan. They are only $ 56.28 USD for four weeks or trips (outside the United States). That works only $ 1.87 per day!

For travelers under 64, that plan includes the following:

  • $ 250,000 USD in emergency medical coverage
  • $ 1,000 USD for emergency dental care
  • $ 100,000 USD for medical evacuation ($ 25000 USD if the cause of medical evacuation is an acute start of the pre -existing condition)
  • $ 10,000 USD for an evacuation due to political agitation
  • $ 5,000 USD for a travel interruption
  • Up to $ 100 per day after a period of 12 hours that requires an unplanned stay during the night. Subject to a maximum or 2 days.
  • $ 12,500–25000 USD for death or dismemberment
  • $ 20000 USD for remains repatriation

Be sure to verify the description of the coverage for any condition that is applied.

It is located at the lower end of $ 100,000 USD for medical evacuation, but unless it comes out in the remote desert, that should be fine. (If you want greater coverage, get Medjet).

Its travel delay payment is quite low, but the airlines and most travel cards also provide assistance due to the trip, so it is possible that you do not even need the coverage offered by Safetywing. In addition, in reality it does not cover exhaustive electronics, which stinks if it has a expensive camera or video equipment.

As with most standard travel insurance plans, it does not include pre -existing conditions or certain adventure sports, so it is not a good policy if you are going to do many adventure activities along the way.

They sacrifice a pair of a useful complement that I believe that many travelers will appreciate, including the coverage of adventure activities and electronics theft. That means that if you need coverage, you can pay more for it. However, if you don’t need it there, you don’t have to pay it, keeping costs. I appreciate that, as some who always need electronic coverage, but who need adventure activities (I am not a great adrenaline addict).

What is not covered?

The essential plan is mainly oriented to cover medical emergencies and basic travel mishaps (such as delays and lost luggage). Here are some things that No Covered:

  • Incidents related to alcohol or drugs.
  • Extreme sports and adventure activities (unless you buy adventure sports complement, which is available for non -American residents)
  • Pre -existing conditions or general check -up
  • Travel cancellation
  • Lost or stolen cash

NOMAD COMPLETE: Coverage for digital nomads and long -term travelers

In 2023, Safetywing launched Nomad Health (now called its “complete” plan). It is safe for digital nomads, remote workers and long -term travelers. This new plan sacrifices a combination of standard emergency coverage that we have been discussing previously with the “regular” medical care coverage, such as routine visits and preventive care.

The full plan also sacrifices coverage in 175 countries, includes well -being benefits, mental health care and people’s ability to choose their own doctor while traveling. They will also expand coverage, including a complement to “electronics theft” (which, like some of those who have been bones, while traveling, I think it is a great idea).

It is like the health insurance child he would find in his country of origin, ensuring that he is treated regardless of what happens while he is abroad.

You can get more information and compare the plans here

If you only go for a couple of weeks or a couple of months, the essential Safetywing plan is the option for you. It is perfect for emergencies, it is super affordable and is designed for budget travelers. It is the plan that I use when I travel the thesis days.

However, if you are going to work abroad or travel for months (or year), then your new complete plan is the best option. Sacrifice much more coverage while still affordable. In fact, it is the plan I would like when I started traveling in the long term!

You can get more information about the complete plan in my dedicated review.

Make a claim

Safetywing facilitates the presentation of a claim through its online portal. Simply upload all the required documents, screenshots and photos, and wait to receive news. While claims can take up to 45 business days, most are handled in less than a week (when writing, the average waiting time is four days).

If you read the reviews online, most people who had a negative experience did not know about the deductible (Safetywing eliminated their deductible for the axis of non -American residents of 2024) or hated the time he began to pay. But that is quite normal for people to complain.

On the positive side, Safetywing’s average time to handle a claim has dropped to only four days. That is shape Faster than most companies!

A note about COVID

Safetywing includes coverage for COVID-19. While the virus was not contracted before its plan begins, then it will be covered (whenever it is medically necessary).

Safetywing also covers quarantine costs (outside your country of origin) for up to $ 50 USD/day for 10 days (it was provided that you have had its plan for at least 28 days).

Pros and cons of security security

Here is one aspect that the pros and cons security security of a look at helping you decide that it is the best insurance provider for you and your trip:
