Who is Tyler Shough? Saints rookie older than 12 projected starting QBs

Tyler Shegh, being the first (and unique) field marshal in leaving the board on day 2 of the NFL 2025 draft, proved to be the biggest surprise of the second round.

After being recruited in number 40 in general by the Saints of New Orleans, Shegh could be online to immediately start with the persistent shoulder injury of Derek Carr leaving his state by 2025 uncertain.

After a seven -year -old university career, Shegh (pronounced “shuck”) should be more than ready. At 25 years and 209 days, he is the fourth QB of the selected coming that will be selected before the sixth round in the modern history of the NFL draft. It is the oldest QB that was written from Brandon Weeden, who was 28 years old when the Browns touched him in the first round of the 2012 draft.

The story of the QB writing that turns 25 is not great, but perhaps Shiving can make a trend.

Interestingly, it is already greater than at least 12 quartbacks that will begin in 2025. Here is a look at that list, along with the current age of each QB and when and where they were recruited.

  • Cam Ward, 22, No. 1 in general in 2025, Tennessee Titans
  • Caleb Williams, 23, No. 1 in general in 2024, Chicago Bears
  • Jayden Daniels, 24, No. 2 in general in 2024, Washington commanders
  • Drake Maye, 22, No. 3 in general in 2024, New England patriots’
  • Michael Penix Jr., 24, No. 8 in general in 2024, Atlanta Falcons
  • JJ MCCARTHY, 22, No. 10 In general in 2024, Minnesota Vikings
  • Bo Nix, 25, No. 12 in general in 2024, Denver Broncos
  • Bryce Young, 23, No. 1 in general in 2023, Carolina Panthers
  • CJ Stoud, 23, No. 2 In general in 2023, Houston Texans
  • Anthony Richardson, 22, No. 4 In general in 2023, Indianapolis Colts
  • Brock Purdy, 25, No. 262 in general in 2022, San Francisco 49ers
  • Trevor Lawrence, 25, No. 1 in general in 2021, Jacksonville Jaguars

So how did they get here?

Well, once it was a four -star recruit from Arizona, which is the race in Oregon. After Redshiring his first season and supporting Justin Herbert in his second, Shegh was the main opener of the Ducks in 2020. At the end of the year, he was wasting the game time and chosen transfer to Texas Tech. It would spend three years in Lubbock, but each of them was limited by injuries.

Shash then transferred to Louisville before the 2024 season and enjoyed the healthiest and most productive campaign of his career.
