Bills focus on defense in NFL Draft, headlined by Kentucky CB Maxwell Hairston

Deep in line DSEC strong

With the NFL MVP, Josh Allen, showing that he can make an effective offensive with a participation approach in his first season, less Stefon Diggs receiver, Buffalo’s tickets used this year’s draft to replace a defense.

General Manager Brandon Beane used the first five selections of Buffalo and six of nine in general to address the five -time defending needs of the short and long term AFC East Champions in the corner already along the defensive line.

The newly arrived high arrivals have the potential to immediately improve the unit after Beane Cut Edge Running Von Miller decided not to sign the corner Rasul Douglas and cool in the corner Kaiir Elam by exchanging the first round of 2022 to Dallas at the end.

“We feel we needed to be younger in some areas in defense,” said Beane. “Sometimes you have transition, age in certain positions, positions that do not work … I think it is exciting where we are [because] Or what we add. “

Buffalo opened the draft taking the corner of Kentucky Maxwell Hairson at number 30. Around the next three rounds, Beane was negotiated to land defensive tacle: TJ Sanders of South Carolina in No. 41 and Deone Walker of Kentucky in No. 109, while Arkansas Edge Landon Jackson (No. 72) also added.

Add the additions of the runners of the free agent Joey Bosa and Michael Wetten and the Tackle Larry Ogunjobi, and this represents an important change of aged defense that allowed 30 or more points four times the AFSA of the game game game, including last season.

Buffalo has only seven withdrawals, including CBS Tre’Davious White and Dane Jackson, who joined the team this year of the defense that was trampled by KC in a 38-24 defeat in the AFC championship game after the 2020 season.

Beane was reviewing the list 13 months ago when he separated with six captains, including the exchange of Diggs to Houston, to order Buffalo’s payroll.

With some exceptions, starting with Allen, Bills are a team transformed from 2019, when they started a six -year streak of appearances in playoffs.

Draft selections join an emerging nucleus after the Bills signed five players, including Allen, to hire extensions of four or more years in this low season.

“I think that is GM’s work, is making sure you want to compete today, but you also have plans for more and how you are going to do that,” Beane told The Associated Press.

“It is understanding that some guys will graduate, injuries occur, you have to move on,” he added. “It ensures that you have a plan in each step of the road, how free agency attacks and how to attack the draft.”

Deep in line D

With three draft selections, the Buffalo list now has 13 defensive linens, seven cups and six ends. The Bills prefer to rotate their defensive linens to keep the players new games, and took 11 linens in the last season.

The depth won is a problem initially, since Ogunjobi and Kites hope to lose the first six games while serving NFL suspensions for violating drug policy that improve the performance of the league.

SEC strong

The first four Buffalo players are from the SEC, including Kentucky teammates, Hairson and Walker.

“How can you not respect the SEC and its history?” Beane said. “Every year, every draft, many premium players. It is not the only league, but it is a rather loaded division.”

Sanders, the second round of South Carolina, grew up playing basketball and did not pick up football until its third year of high school. He kept football when South Carolina sacrificed him a scholarship.

“I feel that if I couldn’t play at the SEC, I couldn’t play in any league,” Sanders said. “So I wanted to go to SEC and really show myself, to show that I belong.”

Associated Press reports.
