The old government construction site could give way to hundreds of new houses in a Reesoning or one of Melbourne’s suburbs, with fluent.

The former Vicroads headquarters, now rezon for residential and commercial use, could deliver up to 500 new houses in Kew.

Kew, a suburb with an average housing price of $ 2.6 million, is one of the suburbs of Melbourne’s Sough, with its proximity to the city, well established services and its location within the desirable school zones.

Both the Victorian government and Victoria development have said that 10% of the houses delivered on the site must be affordable. They have not given any indication of the expected market for 90%soaking.

The Vicroads site served as its headquarters in Kew for more than 60 years before the official closure in 2024, with the personnel who moved to other places. A feasibility study on its potential sale was commissioned in 2010.

Now that it has pounding in the legs, the present site is expected to build medium -height apartments.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to unlock surplus government land throughout the State.

Positioned near the Junction Kew, the site has the potential to provide houses in a “tram and tram zone” recently designated, part of the governments, part of the governments aims to build a higher residential construction in some or the most busy public transport corridors of Melbourne.

The Victorian Minister of Harriet Shing Housing and Construction said that the opportunity to reuse the land of the Government is a way to increase the supply of housing.

“This iconic office building building in the heart of the new train and tram area in Kew Junction can now be very good, giving more people inside the east the houses they need,” he said.

Victoria Development is delivering the Master Plan for the Site and has begun to investigate possible ways to rebuild the offices building in the middle of the century located at the southern end of SIT.

The government agency previously invited the comments of the community to help shape the future of the duration of March and April 2025.

The comments were collected through a report of community aspirations, which will help guide the site address and form a part of the developer’s bidding process.

Victoria development also invited developers to express interest in delivering new homes on the site as part of the plans to accelerate development.

Expressions of closed interest requests in mid -May. The preselected developers will soon be invited to send detailed proposals, and the successful partners will be announced later in 2025.

“The building has a potentially adequate design and structure for reuse in houses and mixed use spaces,” Victoria’s Interim Development CEO, Niall Cunningham, said.

The first works on the site are expected to begin in 2026.
