Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said this by Israel’s Defense Minister Katz. Iran has not commented on the claim.
If confirmed, Larijani would be the highest-level assassination in the war since US-Israeli strikes killed former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several members of his family on the first day of the war they launched on February 28.
Larijani was last seen publicly on Friday, attending the Al Quds Day rally in support of the Palestinians in Tehran, along with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Larijani has been a political figure in the Iranian hierarchy for years, and at one point led the nation’s nuclear negotiations with the West. Previously he was also president of the Iranian Parliament.
The Israeli military claimed in a Tuesday X publication that it had killed the commander of the Basij unit, the paramilitary internal security militia of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
“Guided by precise information from Military Intelligence, the Air Force yesterday carried out a targeted attack in the heart of Tehran, eliminating Gholam Reza Soleimani, commander of the Basij unit for the last six years,” he said.
Iran has also not confirmed this claim.
More to come…
