French prime minister Sebastien Lecornu resigned only one week after assuming office, further deepening the country’s political crisis.
The French presidency said in a statement on Monday that President Emmanuel Macron has accepted the resignation of his nearby ally.
Almost a month after his appointment, Lecornu had appointed his ministers on Sunday night.
The cabinet had his leg prepared to celebrate his first meeting on Monday afternoon, but his alignment enraged both opponents and allies.
Lecornu, former Minister of Defense, was the fifth Prime Minister of Macron in two years.
