For second time in 8 days, U.S. fighter jet assigned to USS Truman is lost in Red Sea

For the second time in just one week, a Super Hornet Fu/A-18 combat plane assigned to USS Harry S. Truman has been lost in the Red Sea, confirmed a defense official to CBS News. The two pilots aboard the plane suffered minor injuries in the order.

The official said in a statement that the Super Hornet was trying to land on the Truman flight deck on Tuesday “when a stop failed, which caused the aircraft to be overboard.”

An arrest is the mechanism that includes a detention cable to catch a combat plane and saafly slows it as it lands.

“Both aviators safely expelled and were rescued by a helicopter assigned to the Helicopter Combat (HSC) 11,” said the official. “The aviators were evaluated by the medical personnel and it was evaluated that they had minor injuries. No flight cover staff was injured.”
