The authorities said the injured have been transferred to medical facilities for treatment.

Dozens of people have been injured after a mass explosion and a fire in the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, more than 1000 km (620 miles) south of the capital, Tehran, according to state officials and media.

Iran’s Customs Authority said in a statement that Saturday’s explosion occurred in the SINA container courtyard, which is affiliated with the ports and the maritime organization.

According to the Iranian emergency service, at least 80 people were injured in the explosion.

Mehrad Hassanzadeh, director of the Crisis Management Organization of the province of Hormozgan, told state television that the injured have been transferred to medical facilities.

Previously, the ports of Hormozgan and the maritime administration official Estmaeil Malekizadeh, said the explosion toks place near the Shahid Rajaei Port dock.

The videos of social networks showed a huge black smoke plume and a fireball that rose from the area of the explosion.

Other videos showed damage to buildings and vehicles. There were also several people around the area according to the injured and verify the damage to the properties.

The port of Shahid Rajahei mainly handles container traffic and also has oil tanks and other petrochemical facilities.

In May 2020, Israel has been accused of launching an important cyber attack in the same port, causing transport chaos for days after blocking the installation computer system.
