The Korean Democratic Party appoints Lee Jae-Myung as its candidate for Snap presidential elections established for June 3.

The South Korean Korea Democratic Party has appointed Lee Jae-Myung as its candidate for SNAP presidential elections established for June 3.

Lee won the nomination of his matches with almost 90 percent of the duration of the elementary vote, surpassing two other contestants.

Lee, a progressive leader who advocates greater economic equality and improved relations with North Korea, is now the favorite to happen to President Yoon Suk-Yool, who was expelled after the attempt to impotate the leading year of the martial law.

The former 60 -year leader of the main opposition party led the political trial process against Yoon about the order of the martial law in December.

In a separate speech, Lee compared the attempt of Yoon’s martial law with the actions of adjusted authoritarian leaders and promised to guide the country out of their political and economic agitation.

The ruling of the Constitutional Court at the beginning of this month resulted in the elimination of Yoon, which caused the call for a new presidential election.

RESTA OF CORRUPTION INVESTIGATIONS

Lee has led in opinion surveys for several weeks, maintaining a two -digit advantage over contestants of the Conservative Party of People Power, which will announce its candidate on May 3.

This marks Lee’s third attempt to ensure the presidency. He lost by little before Yoon in 2022, with the closest margin in the democratic history of South Korea. In 2017, it ended third in the primary of democratic parties.

Lee promised to strengthen the defense capabilities of South Korea and position the country as leader in high -tech industries, a cultural power and an exemplary democracy.

Known for its anti-establishment position, Lee has built a reputation as a champion against corruption and inequality. He served as governor of Gyeonggi, the most popular province in South Korea, and as mayor of the city of Seongnam.

However, it currently faces five judgments for charges related to corruption and other criminal crimes, including accusations related to bribery and a properties development scandal of $ 1 billion. If the presidency wins, the thesis trials are likely to be sunk due to presidential immunity.

Lee’s rise occurs when People Power Party struggles to recover public confidence after Yoon’s martial law decree lunches the nation in agitation. He reached the headlines of his role in the blockade of the decree, climbing on the walls of the National Assembly when the troops surrounded the building, which helped ensure a vote that annulled the order.
