Ultra-rapid EV chargers on their way to Israel

Following China and the US, the vehicle market in Israel is also preparing for a great jump in fast charge. Within a year or two, it will be possible to load electric vehicles three times faster than usual today. A new generation of load stations will support a theoretical load rate of a megavatio or more, which is compared with 250 kilowatts for most public fresh charging stations today.

This loading station can load large batteries almostul in an average of five minutes, for vehicles adapted to such loading speeds. This is approximately at the same time that it is needed to fill the tank of a vehicle fed by gasoline in a typical fuel station. Alternatively, if a complete load is required, it will be possible to extend the range of an electric car in hundreds or kilometers in less than two minutes. Such charger can also share the ultra fast load rate of several vehicles united at the same time, overcoming the current problem of a significant decrease in load speed when several vehicles are connected to the same station.

This year, tens of thousands or 1 megawatts loaded began to be implemented in China, with the support of the main vehicle manufacturers such as Byd and Huawei, some of which have launched the production of vehicles that can take advantage of them. The main battery manufacturers, such as Catl, have begun to sell batteries that admit thesis load rates. These vehicles, by byd and other manufacturers, are Mean to get to Israel next year.

The cost of buying and installing thesis loaders remains high, and is equivalent to tens of thousands of dollars per unit. This is because they incorporate special technology, such as the water cooling of the station and connection cables, and an internal energy storage unit that can compensate for problems in the energy conduction network.

The heavy vehicle market

Until the use of vehicles that support this load technology is generalized, its main advantage is for heavy and logistics vehicles. These vehicles have large batteries that take a long time to load, which repeats a substantial barrier for the penetration of electric vehicles in this segment.

“Globes” has learned that at least a large load supplier in Israel, GNRGY, is already involved in a pilot program for ultra -rags in the logistics center of a leading transport company. In the trial, 720 kilowatt load stations are being used, which in theory can withstand the ultra fast load load or two commercial trucks or vehicles simultaneously. The loaders such as these are commercial in Israel are expected to be in the last quarter of this year, although they will initially be limited to 450 kilowatts because the consideration of the infrastructure. Other vehicle importers are examining the possibility of installing ultra fast loaders at their headquarters and main deposits, subject to network infrastructure.

“Globes” has also learned that Tesla Israel has begun to examine the technical viability of displaying the new generation of Tesla supercharger, the V4, which can theoretically collect a vehicle at rates of up to 500 kilowatts. They are designed to support the load of up to 1.2 megawatts in the future. Tesla already operates a network of these loaders in the US. UU., Providing real load rates of approximately 325 kilowatts, and displayed the first stations of this type in Europe last year.

The Israel Public Services Authority for Electricity said: “Several Israeli companies are when examining the technologies thesis, but so far there have been no specific requests to connect them.”
