Census exercise hinges upon support from Supplementary Demands for Grants

As the Cabinet Political Affairs Committee decided to include caste enumeration in the next census, the government is expected to provide money for the census in the complementary demands of subsidies (SDG).

The Budget of the Union for Fiscal Year 2025-26 has provided a little more than ₹ 500 million rupees under the ‘Survey and Statistics of the Chief Census. According to the notes at the foot of the document, it includes provisions for the Office of the Secretary General and Commissioner of the Indian Census and several RGI schemes, including the National Population Registry (NPR) and the expense in the census, 2021.

A much greater amount will be required to complete the exercise of the census and the update of the National Population Registry (NPR).

Census cost

Six years ago, a cabinet decision date on December 24, 2019, described the proposal for the Census or India 2021 census at a cost or around ₹ 8.7 billion rupees and updates or NPR at a cost or around ₹ 3.9 billion rupees. It was decided that the census of the housing list and the house will take place from April to September 2020 and the enumeration of the population will take place between February 9 and 28 or 2021. The plan was to update the census of the list and house of the house, except in Assam. Around 30 field field LAKH were assigned all the work. However, due to pandemic, the entire exercise had to be suspended.

He thought that the Government has not given a timeline to carry out the census, it is expected to start before the Bihar Assembly elections that are due to the end of this year and a greater amount will be requested in this fiscal year.

In the event that the Government wants to complete the exercise of the census together with the census enumeration and the NPR update, it can present the presentation of SDG in the session of the Parliament Monzón.

The SDG is a mechanism through which the Government seeks a Lok Sabha approach for the Tows Expenditure Expendo Budget funds.
