On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Arena,” Sen. Angus King (I-ME) discussed the impasse over DHS funding and said the solution to the disagreement between Democrats and Republicans over whether officers should be able to wear masks is to eliminate them except in “certain limited circumstances” and also “make doxxing a felony” so officers are protected from it.
Host Kasie Hunt said Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) told her that mask wearing is a red line for Republicans and asked King to respond.
King responded: “On the question of wearing masks, I have never in my life seen a law enforcement agency that wears masks as a matter of course. Now, maybe there is some special case where they should do it. But the problem with people wearing masks is, number one, it’s intimidating and it puts fear in people. And I think it kind of breaks down a barrier to responsible behavior if no one knows who you are.”
He continued: “I think the answer is: let’s get rid of masks, allow them in certain limited circumstances, and make doxxing a felony so people can be protected from what James Lankford (R-OK) says is the problem.”
