The UIDAI in another pro-person initiative has decided that between the ages of 7 and 15 years it will be exempt from the payment of rates for mandatory biometric updates (MBU). It is predicted that it will be a blessing for almost 60 million children throughout the country.

As of October 1, 2025, and in operation for a year, the exemption will be considered in force.

According to the current Aadhaar rules, children enrolled below the age of five provide basic details such as name, date of birth, gender, address and photography, but digital footprints and Iris scans are not captured in that developed note. Therefore, the first MBU is required when the child reaches five years of age, and a second update is required at age 15.

Any biometric update made to AADHAAR opens easier access to essential services such as school admissions, entrance exam, scholarships and DBT schemes. Uidai has asked parents and/or guardians to update Aadhaar’s details as soon as possible.
